Leading loyalist charged

A leading Portadown loyalist has been charged with possessing a gun with intent to endanger life.

The man, aged 38, is due to appear before a magistrate in Craigavon, Co Armagh.

He was also accused of possessing a weapon with intent to cause a person to believe that unlawful violence would be used against him.

The man was detained in West Street, Portadown, on Saturday after shots were heard. A woman detained by police was later released.
