The Nigerian leader, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has told a visiting American envoy about his belief in democracy.

Democracy is here to stay, and it will stay, he told the American Commerce Secretary, William Daley.

He urged the United States to invest in Nigeria, while Mr Daley added that America was waiting for the country to emerge as a potential trading partner.
