Footballer remanded over cocaine charge

A former Cardiff City player has appeared in court over charges that he tried to supply cocaine.

Former Wales Under-21 striker Leon Jeanne was accused of being part of a group trying to supply cocaine.

Following the five minute hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, the 21-year-old was remanded in custody charged with conspiring with others to supply the Class A drug.

He did not make a plea and there was no application for bail.

Mr Jeanne from the Llanrumney area of the capital, looked set for a glittering career in football after making his mark as at schoolboy level - representing Wales from under-15 to under-21.

His ability was first was spotted by a scout for Premiership leaders Arsenal.

Queens Park Rangers then signed him up on a contract reported to be worth £1,500-a-week, but he was later released after failing to turn up for training.

He moved to Cardiff City where he made just two full team appearances.

Four months ago, Bluebirds owner Sam Hammam released him from his contract over disciplinary matters.

Some time after he was arrested by police investigating a plot to supply cocaine.

He appeared before Cardiff Crown Court accused of conspiracy to supply cocaine between 1 April and 26 August this year.
