Court order in India water row
The supreme court in India has told the southern state of Tamil Nadu to co-operate with a central government team sent to measure water levels in the Cauvery River.

The team is to give its report by Thursday.

Last week, Tamil Nadu accused the neighbouring state of Karnataka of ignoring a central government demand to release 0.8bn cubic feet of water each day from the River Cauvery.

The court also said that linking the rivers by canals could be an answer to water sharing disputes.

The two states have been locked in a bitter dispute for many years about sharing the Cauvery waters.

Meanwhile, three districts of Tamil Nadu have been disrupted by strikes called by farmers demanding the immediate release of waters from the River Cauvery.
