Sunday, December 6, 1998 Published at 09:24 GMT World: Asia-Pacific Suharto to be questioned The Indonesian authorities say they will question former President Suharto again this week over alleged corruption during his three decades in power. This will be the second inquiry of its kind, the first having exonerated Mr Suharto of any wrongdoing. That finding, however, prompted a public outcry, and last month Indonesia's highest legislative body the People's Consultative Assembly ordered a further, more thorough inquiry into Mr Suharto's wealth. But the BBC Jakarta correspondent says questions have been raised as to how far Mr Habibie is prepared to proceed against his predecessor. Only a fraction has been tracked down of the estimated billions of dollars that Mr Suharto is alleged to have amassed. He denies the allegations. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
