More disruption on rail network

First North Western is cancelling 160 trains each day

Rail commuters are facing more disruption as a result of an ongoing pay dispute by drivers in the North West of England.

A ban on overtime by drivers working for First North Western means 160 trains a day will be cancelled from Monday.

But peak-time travellers will not be affected, as the cancellations will take place during less busy times.

The action follows a 48-hour stoppage which was held by drivers over the weekend.

It caused widespread disruption to travellers, including delegates travelling to the Labour Party Conference in Blackpool.

The union Aslef has also organised a number of two-day mid-week walkouts as part of the long-running dispute.

It claims a 19% pay offer over three years from First North Western has "unacceptable strings attached".
