Cars with GAA stickers attacked
Car rear windows were damaged by vandals
Car rear windows were damaged by vandals
A number of cars, some displaying County Armagh gaelic football emblems, have been vandalised in Lurgan.

The 24 cars, which were parked on Lough Road and Victoria Street, had their rear windows smashed in the early hours of Sunday.

Many people throughout the county have been displaying Armagh football regalia after their team won the All-Ireland GAA title for the first time in its history last Sunday.

SDLP assembly member Dolores Kelly said she believed there was a sectarian motive behind the attacks and blamed it on "some very bitter and twisted people".

"It seems as if a sectarian gang has gone on the rampage.

"It would appear that it's all to do with the celebrations of the Armagh football match," she said.

One resident, who did not want to be identified, said she would stranded without her car.

"I have rheumatoid arthritis and I need it for hospital appointments - I need it for getting about."

Cameras damaged

Last week police said several hundred Armagh fans attacked a police station in the town while celebrating the county team's success.

Several security cameras were damaged in the incident.

Police said the crowd then clashed with loyalists in the town centre.

At least one officer suffered minor injuries as security forces tried to end the fighting.

But this was refuted by Sinn Fein, who blamed the trouble on a small group of people who got out of hand.
