Inquiry into biker's fatal crash
Police car
Police recovered Neil Kirby's body from a field
An investigation is to be carried out into the death of a motorcyclist who crashed after being pursued by police.

Neil Kirby, 20, hit a telegrapgh pole and a tree on Dead Lane, Great Bentley, Essex on Wednesday.

He was killed instantly.

The Police Complaints Authority will carry out the investigation.

Stunt wheelie

Mr Kirby was one of two bikers who passed a police patrol car near Great Bentley.

The officers followed both riders, one of whom is said to have been performing a "wheelie".

One of the bikers pulled over but the other failed to stop.

About an hour later the same officer attended a 999 call about reports of a motorcyclist in a field.

Tragic matter

He recognised the motorcycle as the one he had followed earlier.

Mr Kirby, who came from Clacton, was lying in the field about 30 feet from his bike.

Nicola Williams from the PCA said: "This is a tragic matter and my sympathies go out to the friends and family of Mr Kirby.

"I will oversee the investigation which will be carried out impartially on behalf of the coroner."
