Angolan President denounces Savimbi

President dos Santos of Angola has called for the international isolation of the opposition UNITA leader, Jonas Savimbi.

He told a party congress in Luanda that all attempts to bring Mr Savimbi into the life of the nation had been fruitless: he knew only how to kill, destroy and divide.

The Angolan peace process has been stalled since March when Mr Savimbi refused to relinquish some territory and complete the disarmament of his movement.

On Friday the UN Security Council warned that he would be held personally responsible for the safety of fourteen UN peacekeepers who have been prevented from leaving an area controlled by UNITA.
