Taleban release more than a hundred prisoners

The Taleban authorities in Afghanistan say they've released a group of more than a-hundred prisoners-of-war -- members of the forces of the opposition commander, Ahmed Shah Masood.

A Taleban spokesman said the releases were to mark the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan which begins later this month.

More than a month ago the opposing sides in Afghanistan agreed to release a-thousand prisoners each.

However, only a small number have been freed so far because the terms for the releases have still to be agreed.
