Motherwell mourn striker

Motherwell were given permission to call off Saturday's Scottish Premier League game with Dundee following the sudden death of one of the club's young players.

Striker Andy Thomson, 19, collapsed and died on Friday night and a club spokesman said the game had been postponed as a mark of respect.

The Press Association reports that Thomson was taken ill at a friend's house and died later at the Monklands Hospital in Airdrie.

He was born at nearby Bellshill and joined the Fir Park staff from Motherwell Boys Club in September 1997.
