Wembley work for North East
Impression of the new Wembley Stadium
The new stadium will feature an impressive arch
A North East company is to play its part off the pitch in making the new Wembley Stadium venture a success.

Cleveland Bridge Group, of Darlington, has signed a £60m contract to supply and erect steelwork for the new £575m national football stadium.

Work at the new Wembley National Stadium will take place in three phases over the next two-and-a-half years.

The famous Wembley twin towers will be replaced by an arch in the design, which Cleveland Bridge will work on.

Premium seats

The company will also work on the stadium structure and on the roof.

The Darlington firm has been involved with some of the largest projects in the world in recent years, including in Hong Kong and on the Victoria Falls bridge in Zimbabwe.

Demolition crews will begin dismantling the old Wembley Stadium next week.

Australian-based Multiplex Constructions has secured the £445m design and construction contract to build the new stadium.

The stadium will have seats for 90,000 supporters, including 17,000 premium seats.
