Diplomat in court over Tesco murder
Damian Broom
Damian Broom died from stab wounds
A Columbian diplomat has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man outside a Tesco store in west London.

Damian Broom, 23, died of stab wounds outside the Tesco store on the A40 at Greenford in May.

Sergeant Major Jairo Soto-Mendoza, 44, attached to the Colombian Embassy, was granted bail by Horseferry Road magistrates on Friday afternoon.

On Thursday, Columbia agreed to waive diplomatic immunity for two men attached to the embassy who were wanted for questioning about the murder.

Mr Broom's family had campaigned for five months for immunity to be lifted.

Prime Minister Tony Blair raised the issue with Colombian President-elect Alvaro Uribe during a visit to Downing Street in July.

Sgt Major Soto-Mendoza will next appear at the Old Bailey on Monday when another bail application will be heard.
