Man sought over alley murder
Murder scene
Police believe the incident began outside an off-licence
Police are keen to speak to a man following a fatal stabbing in a Leicester alleyway on Wednesday.

The victim, 47-year-old Michael Doherty, known as Mick, was found in an alleyway off Oban Street in the city's Newfoundpool area.

He was certified dead at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and a post mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of stab wounds.

Officers want to identify and speak to a youngish dark haired man seen in the Beatrice Road area from about 1930 BST.

Officers know there was a disturbance in the Beatrice Road area, near to Tony's Supermarket, known locally as Reg's.

They believe the disturbance carried on into the alleyway where the victim was found.

Mr Doherty, who lived in the Newfoundpool area, had also been in the area earlier that evening.

Anyone who has not yet spoken to police who was in the area of Beatrice Road, Sylvan Street, Newport Street and Oban Street on Wednesday evening from about 1800 BST is urged to come forward and speak to officers in the incident room.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wilson said: "Mr Doherty's death occurred at a time and in an area that was busy with people.

"Several witnesses have already contacted us and it is clear that there were many people who were in and around the area that evening who have not yet come forward."
