Armed bank robbers hunted
Bank of Scotland, Uddingston
The robbers struck as a security van arrived
Three masked men who held up a security van at gunpoint and made off with more than £100,000 in cash are being hunted by police.

The gang struck as staff from a Brinks security van were delivering money to a Bank of Scotland cash machine in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, on Wednesday night.

Strathclyde Police said the attackers threatened to pour petrol over the security guards and set them on fire.

They then stole a six-figure sum of cash in sealed containers and made off towards Bellshill Road, Uddingston.

Vicious and sustained

The car was found abandoned 10 minutes later in Bellshill Road.

Det Chief Insp Derek Ingram, of Hamilton CID, said the getaway car was stolen in Glasgow 10 days ago and appealed for witnesses who had seen it in the days before the robbery.

He added: "I must stress that this was a vicious and sustained attack by a determined group of men who displayed a blatant disregard for the employees of the firm."

The three security staff were said to be unhurt but "severely shaken" by the ordeal.
