Anne Robinson film planned
Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link
Robinson became known as "the queen of mean"
A film of TV presenter Anne Robinson's life story could be made by the BBC.

A script based on the Weakest Link presenter's autobiography, Memoirs of an Unfit Mother, is currently being written.

If the BBC likes it, it will be turned into a feature-length BBC One drama.

She presented Points of View in the 1980s
The film would focus on Robinson's time as a Fleet Street reporter during the 1970s.

The autobiography describes her battle with alcoholism and her struggle for custody of her daughter, Emma.

The script is being developed by independent production company Tiger Aspect, which has made Teachers, Fat Friends and Playing The Field.

It is being written by Paula Milne, who was behind acclaimed TV dramas The Politician's Wife, Second Sight and The Fragile Heart.

Low points

"We are working on a script based on the autobiography and if the BBC like it then we will start work on the film next year," said Greg Brenman, Tiger Aspect's head of drama.

Robinson forged her newspaper career with the Daily Mail, The Mirror, The Sun, Today and The Times, eventually becoming the highest-paid female journalist in Britain.

But she described the low points of her alcohol problem in her book.

"At its worst, it meant ending up with my knickers around my head in a bed I didn't recognise, surrounded by vomit and having not the faintest idea where I was," she wrote.

Arrogant

She moved to TV with Points of View before taking over as host of consumer show Watchdog.

But she made her biggest splash when quiz show The Weakest Link became a hit in the UK and made her a star in the United States.

It earned her the nickname of "the queen of mean" with her arrogant and scathing style.

She has previously said that she would like Shirley MacLaine to play her in a film of her more recent years.
