Caroline Hawley
Caroline Hawley is the BBC's Baghdad correspondent.
Caroline Hawley was born in Nigeria in 1967. She studied Arabic and Farsi at Oxford University. Upon completion of her degree she went to the Middle East and was based in Jerusalem.
She came into journalism, she says, "by accident", doing some work for Newsweek magazine in Jerusalem. Having spent some time as a print journalist in Jerusalem she moved to London in the early 1990s to work for the BBC World Service. During her time with the World Service she worked as both the West Asia reporter and the Africa reporter. Caroline spent some time as the BBC's correspondent in Cairo before taking up a position in Amman, Jordan. She has spent the majority of the last year in Jerusalem, covering the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. She has had many memorable moments working for the BBC including covering the inauguration of the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. Now based in Baghdad, she has just been given a six month residency in the country. |
