Barbershop has been a surprise hit at the US box office, taking nearly $40m (£25m) in its first fortnight on release. It stars rapper Ice Cube as a man who reluctantly inherits a barbershop from his father.

There have been several attempts to make another Superman film - which originally starred Christopher Reeve - over the past few years, with Nicolas Cage at one point tipped to take on the role. Ratner's latest film, the Silence Of The Lambs prequel Red Dragon, will be released on 11 October.
