Arson suspected in bungalow fires
Bungalow destroyed by fire
One bungalow in the terrace was destroyed
Police suspect an arsonist was responsible for five fires at the Cambridgeshire homes of elderly and disabled people.

A house belonging to disabled Guy Marshall at Bar Hill was destroyed.

Mr Marshall and three elderly people in adjoining properties escaped unharmed.

Four fire crews dealt with the fires at bungalows in the Appletrees area shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

It is very lucky that they got out alive without any injuries

Police want to question a man seen running from the area shortly before crews arrived.

He dropped an electric scooter he was riding and ran down an alleyway towards the village hall at 2330 BST.

He is described as white, 5ft 9in tall and thin. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, green hooded jumper and dark trousers.

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Cambridgeshire police.

Neighbour Elva Turner: 'It's awful'

Andy Tucker of the Cambridgeshire Fire Service told BBC Look East that it was very unusual to have five separate areas on fire in one terrace - and the residents were lucky to have escaped.

Elderly people in the neighbourhood said they were frightened by the fires.

Elva Turner was saved by a neighbour who knocked on her front door.

She said she could not comprehend how anyone could start the fires, calling the action "absolutely disgusting".
