Toddler dies crossing road
Road crossing sign
The girl was crossing Dover Rd
A two-year-old girl has been killed as she ran across a road in south-east Kent.

The toddler was leaving a chip shop and attempting to catch up with family members on the other side of Dover Rd, Folkestone.

She was hit by a van being driven by a woman.

The girl was taken to William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, where she died.

'Treated for shock'

The incident happened at about 1220 BST on Wednesday.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "The police are investigating the incident but at this stage it appears it was a tragic accident.

"The driver is extremely upset and is being treated for shock.

"It appears that some of the girl's family were in the chip shop while other members were on the other side of the road.

"It looks like the girl may have tried to run from the shop to be on the other side of the road."

An inquest into her death will open next week.
