Murder inquiry after alley death
Police believe the incident began outside an off-licence
A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was found in
a Leicester alleyway.
The man was found on the path off Oban Street, Newfoundpool at about 2145 BST on Wednesday. He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where he was later pronounced dead. Police are connecting the death with a disturbance in the Beatrice Road area on Wednesday evening. It is believed that the disturbance near Tony's Wine Store minutes earlier may have carried on into the alleyway where the man was found. Post-mortem The dead man, who has not yet been formally identified, is believed to be a local man in his 40s. Detectives investigating the murder are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area from 2130 BST on Wednesday evening, or who has information about the man's death. Oban Street and the alleyway have been cordoned off to allow a full forensic examination of the scene. House-to-house enquiries in the area are continuing, and a post-mortem will be carried out.
