Laughter therapy woman's new venture

Humour is one way of overcoming stress and illness

A Cumbrian woman who has suffered from breast cancer is proving that laughter is the best therapy.

Trix Jones from Dalston near Carlisle is releasing a sequel to her booklet Laughter Therapy to raise more money for breast cancer research.

Her rhymes have already earned £2,000 for Cancer Research UK, and she hopes her new book, called More Laughter Therapy, will raise even more.

She says women reading the book will recognise aspects of their daily lives in her verses.

Positive humour

She said: "It's four years since I was treated at the Cumbria Infirmary in Carlisle.

"I've been fit and well ever since my first operation and the treatment that I had.

"I found it very helpful to able to take a humourous look at life.

"There is nothing humourous about breast cancer, but it's trying to be positive and the humour and love of family and friends that keeps you going.

"That was certainly the case for me."

Mrs Jones says she is having success with her own family who are now composing their own rhymes.
