Police attacked during house searches
Police in Londonderry have come under attack from a group of youths.

The incident happened at about 1900 BST on Wednesday in the Waterside area of the city.

Trouble broke out as police investigated reports of missiles being thrown at premises in the Bann Drive area of Irish Street.

A mob of between 30 and 40 youths pelted officers with stones, bottles, bricks and other missiles.

Passing cars were also attacked.

The violence followed planned searches of houses in the Gobnascale and Strathfoyle areas.

Twenty thousand cigarettes, hand-rolling tobacco and tobacco pouches were recovered.

Local community representatives helped restore calm to the area.
