Woman charged over 1996 death
Police tape
A fresh investigation was set up in Halifax
A murder charge has been brought over a death in 1996 that was thought to have been due to natural causes.

Irene Waters was 89 when she was found dead at her home in Albion Court in Halifax in December 1996.

At the time there were thought to be no suspicious circumstances.

But in September 2001, detectives received new information about the death.

A fresh investigation was started by detectives at Halifax police station.

Now West Yorkshire police say that a 45-year-old woman from Halifax has been charged with murder.

A police spokeswoman said the charge had been brought after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The accused woman is due to appear before Calderdale magistrates in Halifax on Thursday.
