Students miss out on bare essentials
Student drawing life model
A range of nude models is needed
Art students in Northampton are being denied the chance to learn the basics - by a lack of life models.

The art department at University College has just three models prepared to pose nude for drawing classes, and one is about to retire.

Lecturers would like to have eight paid models on the department's books - and are launching a recruitment drive to find more.

Malcolm Robinson told the BBC: "Interestingly, the job centre didn't feel able to advertise this."

Informal applications

However, he urged people not to be shy about applying.

"We are looking for a whole range of people.

"You don't need any experience.

"There's no formal interview as such - you don't have to take your clothes off at the interview."

A spokeswoman for the Department of Work and Pensions said local jobcentres were given guidance on what posts could be advertised.

As jobseekers are obliged to attend interviews, adverts for posts which might cause embarrassment are not recommended.
