More tests on baby's body
Flowers at riverside
Local residents placed flowers where the baby was found
Permission has been given by a coroner to carry out more tests on the body of a baby found at a river in Devon.

The body of the newborn girl was found at Combeinteignhead, near Newton Abbot, in early September.

The baby had been wrapped in two bags weighed down with a rock.

Now extra time has been given to keep the body. Police still have not traced her mother.

DNA profile

The body was discovered by a fisherman at the Arch Brook Bridge inlet of the River Teign.

Results of forensic tests of material found at the scene revealed the DNA profile of a woman.

Police are continuing their investigations, but are still appealing for help in tracing the baby's parents.

The officer in charge of the investigation said they want the parents to come forward "rather than for our enquiries to lead us to their door."

A post-mortem examination showed the child had been born alive and had been in the water for around three days.

An inquest into her death heard the baby died because of a lack of care at birth.

The inquest was adjourned for further police investigations to take place.
