Man attacked with stun gun

The stun gun was used on the victim's stomach
A stun gun was used on a man after he was confronted by a masked gang who burst into his house in Greater Manchester.

The 36-year-old suffered "horrific injuries" in the seemingly motiveless attack in Compstall Road, Stockport.

He had just returned home from the pub on Sunday night when the four men forced their way into his house and one of the intruders thrust the stun weapon into the victim's stomach.

The victim, identified only as Steve, suffered serious cuts to his head.

The men got away with about £60 after searching a downstairs room.

Steve told police: "I have no idea why these men attacked me. It all happened so suddenly and at one point I really did fear for my life.

"There doesn't appear to be a motive for what happened, they didn't take my credit cards or anything from the house, they just stole the money."

'Mistaken identity'

Detective Constable Paul Bruckshaw, of Stockport CID, said the men "used a high and unprovoked amount of violence".

"They left the victim with horrific injuries," he said.

"We have been unable to establish a motive behind this attack, and it may be a case of mistaken identity."

The first attacker was white, 6ft 1ins tall, of stocky build, in his late 20s and was wearing a black balaclava and a black waist-length padded jacket, black jeans and black boots.

The three others were all about six feet tall, of medium build and were also wearing black padded jackets.
