Angolan governing party to meet

The governing party in Angola, the MPLA, begins a congress meeting later today Friday amid fears of a resumption of civil war in the country.

The future of the peace process is expected to be high on the agenda of the meeting, which will also discuss the MPLA's economic and political policies for the next four years.

It comes a day after the UN Security Council expressed concern about the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Angola.

According to the UN, renewed fighting in several parts of the country has forced more than three hundred thousand Angolans to flee their homes.
