"No solution" to Congo conflict

The president of Rwanda, Pasteur Bizimungu, has said there is no solution in sight to the four-month-old conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking on his return to the Rwandan capital, Kigali, after attending the Franco-African summit in Paris, President Bizimungu said there had been no agreement on a ceasefire at the meeting.

He said that while all parties at the talks had emphasised a common interest in peace, this did not mean an end to the fighting.

At least seven African countries are involved in the fighting in Congo, leading to fears of a wider conflict in the region.
