Thursday, December 3, 1998 Published at 18:26 GMT World: Middle East War veterans at Baghdad conference A group of veterans of the allied forces in the Gulf War are in Baghdad attending an international conference on the effects on health of depleted uranium, which was allegedly used in allied weapons systems. The conference -- which was called by the Iraqi government -- has heard Iraqi doctors describe a big increase in health problems in areas allegedly affected. The British Ministry of Defence says there is no evidence that British troops were exposed to depleted uranium. A BBC correspondent in Baghdad says that while the veterans know that President Saddam Hussein will regard their attendance at the conference as a propaganda victory, they say they will continue their campaign.
