More than a thousand mourners took part in the funeral for a Russian school teacher who died during a mass hunger strike to protest over unpaid wages in the central Russian town of Ulyanovsk.

The teacher -- a father of two and veteran of the war in Afghanistan -- had gone without food for ten days.

Last month more than twenty-seven thousand teachers across Russia were refusing to work.
