The Yugoslav army says border guards have killed eight armed ethnic Albanians who crossed from Albania into the Serbian province of Kosovo.
The army says the Albanians opened fire at Yugoslav forces in the south-west of Kosovo.
Correspondents say this is the most serious clash in Kosovo since October, when the Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic, halted an offensive against ethnic Albanian fighters, after being threatened with NATO air strikes.
