Sweeping wins for SWAPO

The governing South West Africa People's Organisation in Namibia has won ten of the country's thirteen regional councils, including the troubled Caprivi Strip, in elections earlier this week.

According to provisional results, SWAPOtook all the seats in the Caprivi Strip, which has traditionally been a stronghold of the opposition Democratic Turnhalle Alliance.

The DTA had urged its followers not to vote in the elections saying party members were being harassed by security forces looking for rebels who want the area to secede.
