Wednesday, December 2, 1998 Published at 22:02 GMT UK Gremlins hit war graves site ![]() This year's Remembrance commemorations Technical problems have limited access to the Internet site set up for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, it has been disclosed.
The site, developed by Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency, provided information in addition to the 50,000 enquiries made to the Ministry of Defence by letter and telephone each year. But in a Commons written reply, junior Armed Forces Minister John Spellar said a fault in its first two weeks of operation had limited access to the site. "The defect manifested itself only after the service was experiencing full-load conditions," he said. "However, during this period, approximately 230,000 of the several million who have visited the site have interrogated the database." In its first week 700,000 people visited the site daily. Mr Spellar said the service had stabilised and its reliability improved as of Tuesday. Further diagnoses and rectification work is being undertaken by CCTA. |
