A court in South Africa has granted an animal rights group temporary custody of thirty young elephants, after ruling that their owner was mistreating them.
Officials from the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals testified that the owner's training methods involved hobbling the elephants and depriving them of water.
The elephants will be placed in game reserves, pending the outcome of a further case against their owner to be heard in March.
