Strike in Nigeria could hit elections

can follow Nigeria UN Civil servants in Enugu state in southern Nigeria are to start an indefinite strike which could threaten Saturday's local elections.

Many were due to be serving as electoral officers.

They are demanding implementation of the minimum wage, and the payment of overtime and salary arrears.

The state government has said it does not have the funds to meet their demands.

But a spokesman for the workers , Osmond Ogwuokolo, told the BBC the problem lay in financial mismanagement and corruption among senior officials and big contractors.
