Public sector workers in the Ivory Coast are due to go on strike over unpaid retirement benefits and a new promotion policy.
The government has decided to promote workers on merit rather than length of service.
Unions say this will just mean friends and family of management are promoted.
A BBC correspondent says the scale of the strike is unprecedented in the Ivory Coast and that even the government affiliated union, the UGTCI, is involved.
