Officials from the European Union and North Korea will hold political talks for the first time in Brussels today Wednesday.

A European Commission spokesman said the two sides would discuss a broad range of issues including security on the Korean Peninsula, nuclear non-proliferation and human rights.

He said the meeting was a cautious attempt to establish a dialogue between the European Union and North Korea.
