Maoists killed in clash with Nepalese police

The authorities in Nepal say twelve suspected Maoist rebels have been killed in a clash with police in the remote hill district of Jarjarkot.

Two others died in the nearby district of Salyan, where rebel fighters last week blew up a communications tower and killed two security guards.

Nearly four-hundred people have been killed since Maoist rebels launched a violent campaign nearly two years ago to create a Communist republic in Nepal.
