Romania has celebrated the eightieth anniversary of its unification with Transylvania with the largest post-communist military parade in the capital, Bucharest.
About twenty-thousand people braved sub-zero temperatures to watch the parade in front of the palace built by the late communist dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu.
But the celebrations were boycotted by the leftist and nationalist opposition parties which held their own ceremony in Alba Iulia in Transylvania, where the original reunification took place.
