Batty move hits brick wall ![]() Batty wants to return to his first club in Yorkshire England midfielder David Batty's move from Newcastle to Leeds United remains deadlocked despite all three parties wanting it to happen. The problem is the difference between the two clubs' valuations of the player - Newcastle want £6m but Leeds are reluctant to pay more than £4.5m. Batty handed in a written transfer request a week ago today, but despite several days of negotiating since, no agreement has yet been reached. Newcastle boss Ruud Gullit said: "Nothing is decided yet. The clubs are still negotiating. That's how it is with negotiations." Batty, 30 this week, is no longer training with the Magpies, and the player and both clubs are desperate to find a solution. Batty, who signed a five-year contract at St James's Park in the summer, has already agreed to waive a payment of £800,000 to secure a move. Newcastle were keen to hang on to the player, who maintains that he is not parting on bad terms. The Tynesiders saw Darren Peacock, Shaka Hislop and Pavel Srnicek all leave for free under the Bosman ruling during the close season. With several other players out of contract next July, they want to rake in every penny they can to help fund Gullit's rebuilding work. |
