Elections in Namibia's Caprivi Strip

Local elections are taking place across Namibia, including the northern Caprivi Strip where a new secessionist movement has recently emerged.

Supporters of the main opposition party, the DTA, are boycotting the poll in the Caprivi Strip.

They say they're being harrassed by the security forces, and arbitrarily accused of having links with the secessionists.

A spokesman for the DTA Nico Smit told the BBC that hundreds of DTA members there had been intimidated and arrested over recent weeks.

He said none had yet been charged with any offence.
