Syrians vote for new parliament

Voting is taking place in Syria to elect a new parliament.

More than seven-thousand candidates are competing for the two-hundred and fifty seats in the People's Assembly.

The elections are expected to be dominated by the National Progressive Front of President Hafez al-Assad.

The NPF, a grouping of several parties led by the Baath Party, has won a majority in the six legislative elections since Mr Assad came to power in 1970.
