Government leaders from France and Germany are meeting today Monday, and tomorrow in the German city of Potsdam for the first Franco-German summit since the election of Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and his centre-left government in September.
Among topics likely to be discussed are the launch in January of the European Single Currency -- the Euro -- and EU structural reform.
The BBC Berlin correspondent says the summit will be watched to gauge the health of Franco-German relations which are seen as the driving force behind the European Union.
Our correspondent says there have been concerns that the Anglophile German Chancellor was nurturing closer ties to London at the expense of Paris.
