Sunday, November 29, 1998 Published at 20:28 GMT World: Americas Pan-American Defence summit gets underway Defence ministers from thirty-three countries are gathering in the Colombian port city of Cartagena for a three-day pan-American summit aimed at improving regional security. Discussions are expected to focus on increased cooperation against terrorism and the trafficking of drugs and weapons. The recent peace treaty signed by Ecuador and Peru, as well as the exploratory talks between the government and rebels in Colombia are expected to be raised at meetings with the United States Defence Secretary, William Cohen.
