Vajpayee says politics won't affect economic reforms

The Indian Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, says the volatility of Indian politics will not affect the economic reform process.

Opening the World Economic Forum meeting in Delhi, Mr Vajpayee said foreign investors need not be swayed by the state election results.

They should instead concentrate on the long-term potential of the Indian economy.

He said his government's policies aimed at an economic growth rate of nearly eight percent.
