Gambian president ignores Libyan air embargo

Reports from Tripoli say the Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, has flown to Libya for talks with Colonel Gaddafi in violation of the UN air embargo.

The Libyan news agency said the flight was in accordance with an OAU resolution to ignore the embargo, which was imposed after Libya refused to hand over two men suspected of involvement in the bombing ten years ago of a Pan Am jet over Lockerbie in Scotland.

A number of other African leaders have violated the ban since the OAU decision.
