Palestinians block Israelis building on Gaza Strip

Palestinian police have prevented Israeli lorries from taking building materials to a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip.

The cement lorries were blocked at a checkpoint on the road leading to Netzarim.

A Palestinian spokesman said that the action was aimed at preventing Israel from violating peace accords but the Israeli authorities insist they are allowed to expandsettlements.

Israel responded to the move by barring senior Palestinian officials from entering Israel from the Gaza Strip, even though they hold permanent travel passes.

The Palestinian Legislative Council has called for an emergency session to discuss the situation.
