Guinean official beaten to death


A government official in Guinea has been beaten to death by an angry crowd at an opposition election meeting.

Police said the official, Jean Traoré, had fired shots into a gathering of the opposition Guinean People's Rally, allegedly killing one man The crowd at the meeting, in a region southeast of the coastal town of Conakry, then attacked Mr Traoré.

A number of attempts to prevent opposition meetings have been reported since the beginning of the election campaign two weeks ago.
