Reports say separatist guerillas in the northern Angolan enclave of Cabinda have claimed responsibility for the deaths of eleven Angolan army officers earlier this week.

A communique from the guerilla group, the Cabinda Enclave Liberation Front, or FLEC, said the officers had been killed last Tuesday in the north of the oil-rich enclave.

It added that FLEC had seized many weapons during the incident.

Earlier this year, FLEC announced the resumption of its armed campaign for Cabinda's independence from Angola.
